EGSE Programme from October 2017 to July 2018

Branch meetings are held in the evening, from 7.30pm (doors open at 7 pm) to 9.30pm, on the second Wednesday in the month throughout the year, with the exception of January and August when there is no monthly meeting.

Wednesday 8 November 2017 ‘Silk Weaving in Suffolk’
Talk by Richard Humphries, who is a modern day silk weaver and an expert on the history of silk weaving. Richard runs Humphries Weaving in Sudbury

Wednesday 13 December 2017 ‘A gadget received or bought’
A ‘Bring along’ discovery session – contributions from all.

Clive Barnett talks about his recent trip to India and ‘Indian Block Printing’ and Carol Sutherland describes her work on the theme of ‘Go Figure’

Wednesday 11 April 2018 ‘Goldwork’ -Jean Wright shares her love of Goldwork with an illustrated talk on the history of this beautiful embroidery style and techniques.

Wednesday 9 May 2018 ‘Super Sorbello’
Featured in ‘A Tale of Two Stitches’ – a Double Trouble’ book by Jan Beaney and Jean – this will be an evening for practical stitch exploration

Saturday 20th January Chairman’s ‘Open House’
Our Chairman, Rose Merton, is delighted to welcome any and every EGSE member to her home.
Arrive and depart any time from 10am until 5pm.
A chance for chat between members over a cuppa, share some of our work and generally catch up on all things textile and stitch as we look forward to the 2018 season

Saturday 7th April ‘It’s a Wrap’ Spring Social
Practical things to try – 1pm to 4pm
Entrance – £4 for branch members
£5 visitors. All welcome. Refreshments, tombola, sales table and plenty of things to make and do

The Pleasures of Hand Stitching Tutor: Maggi Rutterford
Practical stitching day – begin a book of samples, notes and ideas for future reference
Maggi is a member of the exhibiting group TAGS (Textile Art Group Suffolk) and works with straight stitch – including the ‘Kantha’ stitch familiar in east Southern Asia – and other simple yet very effective hand stitches

Printing with Thermofax screens Tutor: Margaret Holder
Margaret teaches Art at Stowmarket High School and runs a Creative Textiles course at the Ipswich Institute.

Admission: £3.50 for EG Members
£4.00 for visitors.

Branch Library
The branch holds an extensive library of more than 200 practical and art books on textiles, stitch, design and various related subjects. Members may borrow books, for free, for up to three months at a time.

A quarterly newsletter is issued to all branch members. This publication is a shared enterprise with Suffolk West Embroiderers’ Guild branch and is supported by local businesses through advertising. Issues are published in March, July, September and December and copies can be collected at both branches’ meetings. talented members
