WORKSHOP Exploring Thermofax Screens
If you think that Thermofax Screens are only used for printing on fabric with fabric paints then think again. In this workshop we will explore several different uses of these screens with mediums such as Xpandaprint, Gesso, Inktense Blocks and more.
We will be printing on Lutradur, Scrim, Khadi Paper and even the humble Kitchen Towel.
To finish we will be foiling and embossing our screen-printed designs.

January 25th – Margaret Talbot
Textured Surfaces in Embroidery
Margaret will talk about her own processes and there will be a display of her work to see

February 22nd – Jacqueline Glyde
Pocket Gardens and Landscapes
Jacky will speak about her childhood, in a creative family, which was spent in many rural areas of this country, where she developed a love of the sea, land and the natural world. Her work is inspired by landscapes, water  and  gardens.   Her pocket gardens are small intricate embroidered gardens hidden in boxes. Her talk will include Her design inspirations, How she turns inspirations into designs, and the practicalities of turning fabric and thread into landscapes and gardens.

February 4th – Jacqui Holmes
WORKSHOP – Fan-tastic Smocking
We will be making a fan shape that can be applied to a background or made into a broach. We will learn three basic traditional smocking stitches. Beads can be added. Jacqui will sell ready pleated fabric for a small amount.

March 29th – Sew and Tell:

April 26th – Linda Turner
When One Door Closes…
How life can take you on unexpected paths, through dark woods and dark days but bring you to a new life and amazing (quilting) adventures.

May 31st – Sally Jubb
An insight into the Conservation of Historic Textiles
Sally’s  journey into training for an MA in Textile Conservation, looking at some objects she has worked on and she will offer advice regarding home storage of textiles

June 3rd – Margaret Talbot
WORKSHOP – Embossed and Textured Machine Embroidery
This will include making a piece of work or small tiles all in white with a raised surface. Then we will learn to machine fagot either joining the tiles or a sample piece of fagotting. The work can be taken home and painted with dyes or other paints. Ideas for further machine textures will be discussed.

June 28th – Jennifer Hughes
Exquisite Embroidery
Examples  of  embroidered  textiles  from  Asia  and  Europe  will illustrate  the  various  wonderful  ways  in  which  people  decorate the surface of cloth. Used in costume or in the home, embroidered articles may exhibit social significance, the importance of fine work, and the status it frequently bestows upon the stitcher and her family.

Summer challenge
Every year the group is set a challenge to be completed over the summer months and a prize is awarded at the AGM t0 the entry chosen by the members.
