Colne & Colchester

We are a friendly bunch who share a love of textiles.

You do not need to be an expert to join, just enjoy textile arts!
If you have a skill to share or want to learn a textile skill this is the place for you.
We meet fortnightly on a Tuesday morning at Firstsite, Arts Centre Colchester and welcome new members of all ages and abilities!

The Colne and Colchester Branch was established in 1986. With 65 members, many of whom were new to embroidery, classes were run on embroidery for beginners with Jill Carter and Goldwork with Joan Hardingham. So successful were these beginnings that the Branch mounted an Exhibition of Contemporary Embroidery at Colchester Castle Museum in 1989.

The Branch continues to flourish and welcomes new members of whatever level – enthusiastic beginners and experienced adepts. Many of our  members have taken part in Regional and National Guild competitions.

Our most recent project has been as part of the co-operation between The Embroiderer’s Guild, The National Trust and other organisations to celebrate the life and gardens of Capability Brown on the 300th anniversary of his birth. Together with Waveney and Suffolk East branches our work can be seen at Ickworth House near Bury St Edmunds.

Enthusiasm amongst a friendly group of people is what identifies the Branch, together with a huge willingness to share skills and encourage others to develop talents that they may have been unaware existed !

We welcome new members, you are welcome to come along for a session FREE to see if you would like to join!

We meet fortnightly on Tuesday mornings 9.30am to 12noon at Firstsite, Colchester, Lewis Garden, High Street, Colchester CO1 1JH.
